Ottawa Fire Services continues to deal with a heavy workload, with two more fires overnight.
The fires brought the number of fires to 13 over the past seven days.
“There is no connection to these fires,” Ottawa Fire Services spokesperson Nicholas De Fazio said. “But they are a strong reminder to check your smoke alarms and practice your fire escape plan.”
At about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, “multiple” callers reported heavy black smoke from a single-family home divided into four apartments in the 300 block of Bronson Avenue.

Firefighters arrived on scene three minutes later to find heavy black smoke coming from the second floor of the two-storey home, with occupants outside telling firefighters there was a fire on the second floor.
Fire crews helped two residents out of the structure and established a medical sector on a porch next door to assess and treat the residents for smoke inhalation. Firefighters administered oxygen to the residents and kept them warm with blankets.
Firefighters located e-bikes that were on fire, and the flames had spread throughout the second floor. The e-bikes were brought outside.
Firefighters had to pull down parts of the ceiling on the second floor to extinguish the embers found in the attic space. The fire was declared under control at 10:21 p.m.
High-pressure fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke out of the structure. Victim assistance was called to the scene for two adults who were displaced by the fire.
A fire investigator was dispatched to the scene.
At about 9:28 p.m., several callers reported smoke and flames coming from a garage in the 900 block of Shefford Road.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed flames coming from the front of the detached double garage.
A resident of the home told firefighters no one was in the garage.
Teams forced the door and were met with heavy flames inside. Flames had breached the ceiling and spread up into the loft of the garage.
The flames were extinguished and the fire was declared under control at 10:36 p.m.
The fire was contained to the garage and did not spread to the home.
Firefighters performed salvage operations by moving the home owner’s tools and equipment to dry areas and placed a tarp over them to protect them from water damage.
There were no reported injuries.
A fire investigator was dispatched to the scene.
