American Patrick Reed has been showered by the boisterous crowd at Grange Golf Club’s famed party hole, setting the scene for LIV Golf’s new season.
The one-time US Masters champion hit a hole-in-one in the first round of the LIV Golf event in Adelaide, sending the packed grandstands into a frenzy.
Chase Koepka famously hit a hole-in-one at the same hole in 2023, giving the tournament, and LIV Golf, one of its more iconic moments.
Reed was playing his second hole of the day, starting his round on the par-five 11th. LIV Golf uses a shotgun start where all players begin their round at the same time.
After suffering a bogey on his first hole, Reed quickly went from 1-over to 1-under par with the ace.
Just like two years earlier, the packed crowd at the 12th hole showered the American with whatever drink that had in their hand at the time.
Plastic cups were strewn across the “Watering Hole”, from the tee box down to the green.
Reed soaked up the shower and the applause, throwing his arms into the air as he skipped down to collect his ball from the cup.
“Well that didn’t take long,” Northern Ireland’s David Feherty said in commentary as the ace took place inside the opening hour of the tournament.
Adelaide is the first tournament of the new LIV Golf season.
LIV Golf is a closed event for players signed with the league, who are playing for themselves and their team.
The tournament has just three rounds, with all players on course at the same time starting at different holes.
