Have the shovels close at hand because more snow — and likely a lot of it — is on its way.
Environment Canada issued special weather statements for Ottawa and Gatineau late Monday afternoon, stating that a “highly impactful” winter storm was possible Wednesday evening into Thursday.
Snowfall amounts could reach 20 cm to 40 cm, it said, with poor visibility and local blowing snow.

However, it seemed there was some chance, as of Monday, that Ottawa could be spared the worst of it.
“Significant amounts of snow are possible late Wednesday into Thursday across a large portion of southern Ontario due to a strong low pressure system,” the statement read. “At this point, the path of the low pressure system is still uncertain which will affect exact snowfall amounts.”
Motorists were urged to consider postponing non-essential travel because hazardous travel conditions are likely.
