Huge news for Manchester’s tallest hotel announced today
One of Manchester’s best known hotels – the Hilton based in the landmark Beetham Tower on Deansgate – has been taken over by a rival hotel group amid huge transformation plans.
Spread across 23 floors, The Hilton opened amid much fanfare on Deansgate back in 2006 and is the city’s tallest hotel.
It swiftly became one of the city’s premier hotels, hosting an array of superstars in its luxury rooms including its Presidential Suite, while its huge first floor ballroom has hosted glittering charity balls and celebrity events.
Its 23rd floor bar, Cloud 23, also became one of the city’s hotspots, boasting panoramic views across the city.
Today, IHG Hotels and Resorts made the surprise announcement that they have signed up the hotel to become part of its luxury hotel group, to become the InterContinental Manchester Deansgate in due course.
A spokesperson has confirmed it will remain open to guests, but will soon become known as The Manchester Deansgate Hotel within IHG’s portfolio, prior to it being fully rebranded into InterContinental Manchester by 2027.
It will become the fifth InterContinental in its UK and Ireland portfolio.
Owned by Blue Manchester Hotel Limited, the 264-room hotel is expected to be fully rebranded by 2027, after they undertake a “comprehensive refurbishment” of the hotel to become a new five star venue for the city centre.
Bosses say InterContinental Manchester Deansgate will “further cement IHG’s position as the largest global hotel company in the UK and Ireland, where it currently operates 363 open hotels and has 33 in development”.
The hotel will also expand IHG’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio in the market, adding to its existing 27 open hotels, including its existing four InterContinental properties – two in London, one in Edinburgh and one in Dublin.
The hotel forms part of the famous 47-storey Beetham Tower – that remains one of the tallest buildings outside of London.
IHG bosses have confirmed that the hotel will feature a variety of luxury amenities to cater to both leisure and corporate guests.
It will retain its indoor pool, sauna and steam room, and fitness centre and ground floor restaurant. The company announced the news on its official website on Tuesday.
