Live: Jai Opetaia set for world title clash on the Gold Coast

Conor Wallace vs Dylan Colin

(Tasman Fighters)

Conor Wallace (15-1) is an all-action, lion-hearted fighter whose only defeat came against Leti Leti right here on the Gold Coast in 2021.

The Northern Irish-born Aussie has been on a tear since then though, earning a redemption win over Leti Leti in 2022 as part of an eight-match unbeaten streak.

He had to dig incredibly deep at the Fortitude Valley Music Hall in December against Asemahle Wellem, getting rocked early before powering back, getting really damn angry, and battering the brave South African into an early stoppage.

It was such an entertaining fight that turned into a bit of a brawl, and we could be in for another one here.

Dylan Colin is a Frenchman with a 14-1 record, four of which came via knockout.

He is coming off his only career defeat against lankly Ukrainian Daniel Lapin in Riyadh in December.

That fight was for the IBF inter-continental light heavyweight.

This could be an absolute barnstormer of a fight.

Jai Opetaia is not far away…

Tyler Blizzard wins by unanimous decision

Two judges have it 99-91, one 98-92.

All in favour of Tyler Blizzard.

Those are wide cards, but I think they are correct.

There could have been some rounds at the start that went Blizzard’s way.

However Ogden only has himself to blame for not pushing the pace earlier.

It was a great fight though.

This is a close fight

I have it 97-93 to Blizzard, but we’ll wait for the official scorecards.

There were some very, very tight rounds at the start of the fight that could have gone either way.

So this could be very close.

But I think Blizzard was cleaner with his work.

Blizzard vs Ogden, Round 10

I think Blizzard has done enough in this fight, and Ogden needs an unlikely-looking knockout to win.

But this has been a good fight.

Ogden starts well, landing to the body.

Ogden marches forward and lands to the body.

He measures up Blizzard for a shot and lands to the top of the head as Blizzard walks back.

This is good from Ogden, who has really stepped it up – leaving everything in the ring.

Good body shots has Blizzard covering up.

Ogden is landing to the body, then he measures up another overhand right but despite the time he takes over it, it’s not clean.

It’s a great round from Ogden though.

Blizzard lands over the top but Ogden is throwing plenty in tight, landing to the body with a solid combo.

Blizzard bides his time, and just lands a couple.

Ogden tries the upper cut but misses.

That’s how it’s done, Blizzard with a very nice upper cut in close.

Gloves flash now as Ogden unloads and Blizzard covers up.

Good shot from Blizzard though!

Both men hold up their hands to celebrate, but I think this is Blizzard’s fight.

Blizzard vs Ogden, Round 9

Blizzard doubles up with the jab and has Ogden going backwards.

Ogden shimmies forward and lands a couple of shots to the body.

Blizzard is too accurate though and he catches Ogden again.

Another good shot from Blizzard has the head of Ogden just flying back a little.

Good left from Blizzard there, catching Ogden.

Blizzard landing with impunity now! Body and head with real power and accuracy, and Ogden, when he responds, can’t find flesh with his glove.

It’s getting away from Ogden, this.

Ogden is trying to keep come forward, and he’s relentless and lands a couple of very good shots coming up.

But Blizzard lands nicely on the counter again – just when Ogden thought that he was coming into the round again.

The angles that Blizzard is making, arching his back to get around the guard and land to the body, is so impressive.

Blizzard lands a couple of solid shots to end the round.

Blizzard vs Ogden, Round 8

Blizzard looks in control now.

Ogden is being more circumspect now though, not committing too early.

Blizzard is occupying the centre of the ring though.

Good from Blizzard, really good! He rocks the head back and then continues and forces another big shot.

Blizzard is the man in control.

He advances and lands.

That’s better though, Ogden comes forward and lands a couple of shots.

But back comes Blizzard, Ogden is coming forward but Blizzard has the accuracy.

GREAT SHOT! Blizzard with a right as Ogden backed away and then he pounces and makes the shots count.

Blizzard lands another great upper cut that has Ogden going backwards.

Ogden responds with a flurry of his own though.

Blizzard vs Ogden, Round 7

Blizzard lands to the body, both men feint from there on.

Ogden comes in again, but Blizzard lands the shot that pauses him.

A bit of a tangle there.

Blizzard lands again, to the body and then up to the head as well. Good shot.

Blizzard lands with three shots, and then lands another cuffing blow after Ogden came in.

Upper cuts from Ogden.

It’s clean from Blizzard though, landing to the body with a couple more shots.

The counter over the top from Blizzard is so good – Ogden is just delaying his shot, waiting and measuring his shot but Blizzard is waiting on him and then countering so nicely and neatly.

Blizzard goes to the body but Ogden has the better of that one as he lands to the body with an upper cut.

Good from Ogden, a couple of upper cuts, but then Blizzard makes Ogden miss and lands the counter.

Ogden is too predicable coming forward, over-committing, making that first move and is being picked off as a result.

It’s been a superb exhibition from Blizzard over the past couple of rounds.

Blizzard vs Ogden, Round 6

Both men exchange hooks and land.

Fierce shot flashing across the face from Blizzard – just missing Ogden.

Ogden comes forward – that’s good, a couple of shots to the head of Blizzard land.

Ogden has the pressure now, pushing forward.

That’s nice from Blizzard, a lead right and then he backed it up.

BIG SHOT! Blizzard lands a brilliant shot with the right to the head of Ogden.

Ogden comes forward but that’s another great counter from Blizzard.

Ogden lands on the guard, and then a couple of very nice shots to the head through the guard from Ogden.

Blizzard with three shots over the top! That’s a great series of shots!

The head of Ogden is getting some attention now and Blizzard is starting to find his range.

Ogden is still firing back though.

Good right from Blizzard, and then both throw and land with the left.

Ogden over-commits there and Blizzard fires back with some brilliant, accurate punching and Blizzard really lets go there!

That’s a great round, Ogden just a little bit rattled at the end of the round.

Blizzard vs Ogden, Round 5

I have this even through four rounds – but it could be 4-0 one way or 3-1 the other – it’s been a very tough fight to score.

Blizzard with a good flurry of shots to start, body, head and body again. Good start.

More good jabs sneaking through the guard there by Blizzard.

Ogden throws a few but most if not all land on the guard.

That’s nice from Blizzard, a nice body shot.

Brilliant from Blizzard, power and pace on a three-punch combo – but back comes Ogden with a furious body shot of his own.

Good power to the body both sides from Blizzard.

Great action.

Ogden comes forward but Blizzard lands with a couple of fierce shots inside.

Blizzard is so sharp, that’s a great shot from Blizzard, the body shots are landing nicely.

That’s a great combo from Blizzard that sends the head rocking back.

Ogden lands with a couple, to head and body! And the body again!

This is terrific.

Good head shot from Blizzard sends sweat flying off Ogden’s head – but Ogden lands with a great shot to the body to end the round.

Another brilliant round.

Ogden on the front foot straight away.

Good two-punch combo there from Blizzard, both of which land, the second with some force.

Ogden gets the body shot to land.

Then both men hit together.

Blizzard covers up, absorbing the pressure and then he powers back on the counter.

Ogden is on the front foot but Blizzard is countering so nicely and cleanly.

It’s a tough fight to score, both men are showing plenty of what they’re good at, Blizzard’s defence though is supreme.

Blizzard lands the body shot, Ogden a hook.

Ogden goes up top and lands a shot to the head.

But Blizzard upper cuts to the body and lands with some force as well!

This is a great round, both men landing plenty and giving plenty and taking plenty and it’s who can have the most go-forward you’d think that might have caught the judges eye there.

Blizzard vs Ogden, Round 3

Blizzard remains standing still, leaning against the ropes in the corner, breathing in the deep breaths.

Ogden with the first salvo of the third, a shot down the middle.

Blizzard lands a cuffing blow.

Ogden is throwing his hands about in these opening moments of the round, now they revert to type.

Blizzard with a couple of jabs now, neat stuff from Blizzard.

Ogden tries with the cuffing right but it’s against the guard.

Blizzard lands a couple of good, tight shots in tight but wears a good one from Ogden in tight as well.

That’s another tight round.

Ogden with a body shot from range.

Now Ogden lands a nice shot to end the round.

It’s still tentative, but now it’s bubbling a little bit.

Blizzard vs Ogden, Round 1

OK, let’s get into this. Both these men are front-foot fighters so this could be a decent one.

There was a bit of chat at the weigh in – it’s all business now as both men tentatively meet in the middle of the ring, feinting and darting.

Blizzard throws a jab, falling short.

Blizzard throws another jab, again falling short.

A right now from Blizzard, just seeing what’s about, falling short again.

Ogden just lands a couple of clubbing rights.

Ogden throws a couple of shots against the guard.

Both land with a jab to end a tentative first round.

Tyler Blizzard vs Rocky Ogden

Next up, it’s the featherweights (57.15kgs).

This fight is for the IBF Pan-Pacific featherweight strap and has the 9-0 Tyler Blizzard up against Rocky Ogden (7-2).

The Tasmanian Blizzard was on the Tasman fighters card in December and battled past the tough and willing Chinese fighter Chengcheng Yang, who battled really hard and gave the Aussie a bit of a scare, in truth.

Now based out of Bangkok in Thailand, Blizzard is a very strong fighter so I have high hopes.

He meets Gold Coast-based Ogden who also has a decision win over Chengcheng Yang on his resume, but is looking to bounce back after losing to Matcha Nakagawa in Shizuoka in December, his second pro defeat.

Ogden just squeezed in at the featherweight limit, while Blizzard had a couple of grams to spare.

Danny Keating wins by unanimous decision

All three judges scored it 100-90, a shut out victory for Danny Keating.

He’s the new WBC Australasian welterweight champion.

Has to be said, I had no questions about the win.

I scored it 100-90 in favour of the Irishman.

It was a classy performance from the former amateur.

Keating vs Minto, Round 10

This fight is petering out into nothing really.

Minto has been wildly outclassed, and Keating doesn’t want to take an unnecessary risk – as is his right.

Solid right from Keating lands and just pauses Minto.

Minto charges in, Keating backs away.

Three-punch combo from Keating, then they clinch.

Solid punching from Keating again, all of which land but there’s nothing really solid and there’s another little grapple.

Minto is still coming forward and Keating is still dodging and darting and bouncing around to avoid the increasingly rare bull-like charges.

Another hideous grapple ensues centre ring.

Minto lands with a good shot over the top! That’s not a bad effort! Is there life yet?

Keating will stay away.

Now they have a little chat centre ring, not sure how friendly it was, Keating wasn’t smiling but Minto is.

Now they’re still chatting there, seems perhaps friendly, nobody seems concerned at least.

It was a fight that didn’t really catch fire to be honest, but a very easy win for Keating.

Keating vs Minto, Round 9

Is Keating going to show us a bit more now?

It’s tentative at the moment, fatigue no doubt a factor.

Two-punch jab now from Keating, both land.

A long range right misses from Keating.

But now a two-punch combo lands.

And another from Keating, Minto covering most of these shots though.

Keating with a big flurry that lands aplenty, and the Minto gives him a little hip shake and a bit of a chat. It’s not enough to spark the fight into life though.

BANG! Keating rocks the head of Minto back now! That’s a great shot, several punches landing to great effect.

Minto keeps coming though.

Cuffing right from Keating lands.

They grapple, tangle and have to be separated, and when they are they have a little sparing session without throwing a punch at each other.

It’s a damp squib of an end to the fight.

Keating vs Minto, Round 8

Can Keating carry on where he left off at the end of that round.

He’s straight in with a jab but then Minto charges in to reduce that distance.

Minto charges, Keating backs away.

Minto goes in again, leading with the head onto Keating’s chest. The referee has had enough of this and they both get a talking to, although quite what Keating is meant to do when Minto comes in like a bull heaven knows.

Keating lands with a couple of shots rapping Minto on either side of his head.

Minto throws a shot at the back of Keating’s head after another untidy tangle.

Minto charges, Keating backs away and throws an upper cut.

Good shot from Keating has Minto in trouble momentarily.

Crowd seems a bit flat during this – there’s no jeopardy in this fight and a lack of intensity too at times.

Minto leaps forward, flashing a shot at Keating’s face but just short.

I have Keating winning every round so far.

Keating vs Minto, Round 7

Keating is very comfortable here – the longer this goes the more comfortable he’s getting and these are good rounds for him to take in his relatively short pro career.

Keating lands with a couple of long range jabs.

He’s the aggressor now, the Irishman, just edging forward and landing a couple of tentative shots towards the guard.

Keating with a wild right that cuffs the top of Minto’s head.

Minto with a wild swing, Keating easily avoids it and Keating now goes to work, just pushing those fists through the guard.

The blood is pouring from that cut again.

Great flurry of shots from Keating, embracing the challenge that the blood is inviting.

Minto tries to land a couple.

Good upper cut off the back of a right from Keating.

BANG! MINTO IS HURT! KEATING WITH A MONSTER RIGHT ONTO THE CUT AND MINTO BACKED AWAY IN PAIN AND SHOCK!

The bell goes to allow the Australian to survive the round.

Great shot.
