NFL-lite
With the announcement from CFL commissioner Stewart Johnson of changes coming to the CFL this former Bell Media executive was obviously an NFL fan. He plans to shorten the endzone by five yards, move the goal posts back to the end of the endzone and reduce the field by 10 yards to 100 yards in length (sound familiar?). He also plans to eliminate the rouge except under very specific conditions (NFL style). His claim that this will enhance the Canadian game is absurd. The CFL was a proud Canadian establishment long before Stewart Johnson was even a twinkle in his father’s eye, so for him to proclaim this is a betterment to the CFL is an insult to CFL fans everywhere. What can we expect next, four downs and a fair catch rule allowing the returner to forgo a runback and a bunch of very large football players can stand around waiting for the ball to quit moving? These aren’t positive moves to our once-proud game, it’s a move to become NFL Lite. I believe the only change the CFL needs is a new commissioner.

Time to go
With over four decades of Alberta consistently getting sand kicked in its face by a succession of past and present Liberal governments in Ottawa, a majority of Albertans would gladly jump at the chance to leave Confederation and form a new nation with unspeakable potential on the global stage. It’s totally wishful thinking on Thomas Lukaszuk’s part, thinking Albertans would remain glued at the hip with Ottawa. Albertans still remember those dark years of Pierre Trudeau and his infamous National Energy Program.

Canadians first
The polarization of our society starts with the demand for special interest groups, whether they be pro-Palestine or LGBTQ or whatever. That naturally promotes the rise of anti groups which begets polarization. If we just concentrated on being Canadian first there would be no problem.

I know what the Alberta Teachers Union wants. They want an NDP government!
