Huawei reduces smart watch with weeks longer battery life than new Apple Watch

The Watch GT 6 and GT 6 PRO come with impressive feature sets, many of which beat out Apple’s own brand new device.

Apple might have just launched its brand new Series 11 smart watch today, but there’s hot competition from HUAWEI. Releasing on the same day, the WATCH GT 6 and GT 6 PRO come with impressive feature sets, many of which beat out Apple’s own brand new device.

While the Apple Watch Series 11 is intended to be an extension of an iPhone, the HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 devices appear to be much more tailored towards those who take sports seriously. While HUAWEI has still retained the ability to read and reply to notifications from the smart watch, it’s cyclists who will reap the most benefits from the device.

New for this model is the ability to calculate virtual power and FTP metrics, key performance indicators for cyclists looking to improve their training. There’s also a new mapping feature that can be accessed from the HUAWEI app, letting them share their location with loved ones in case they end up in an accident while on the road.

Of course, it’s not just cycling that the GT 6 watches are good for – HUAWEI has also programmed all the usual suspects for sport tracking features in here, such as running, golf, and skiing. A new ‘Sunflower Positioning System’ provides improved GPS positioning data to ensure that the sports are tracked as accurately as they can be, no matter the surrounding landscapes.

Like all good smart watch fitness trackers, HUAWEI has ensured the GT 6 and GT 6 PRO are compatible with third-party external trackers like heart rate monitors, accelerometers and more for the ultimate fitness tracking experience. If it has an ANT+ connection, it will probably sync to the new HUAWEI watch.

The watch has been designed to be used outdoors with a rugged yet stylish design and a screen that’s capable of getting up to 3,000 nits brightness.

The biggest boon of all though is in the battery life. While the Apple Watch Series 11 can last little longer than a day on one charge, the HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 can last up to two weeks before needing a top up, and the GT 6 PRO can go even longer at three weeks.

That’s even more impressive when you consider the price of the new HUAWEI watches. The GT 6 starts at £229, while the GT 6 PRO bumps up to £329 – both are cheaper than the latest Apple Watch Series 11, which starts at £369 at Amazon.

What’s more, shoppers can save an additional £30 off both devices when using the code A30OFFGT6 at checkout. The code is valid from September 19 through until October 30, giving shoppers over a month to get the latest design for under £200.

While the HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 is compatible with both Android and Apple phones, users are sadly only able to respond to text messages if they have an Android device. That’s mostly due to Apple locking third-party manufacturers out of their firmware, so you’ll need an Apple Watch if you want that functionality – a refurbished Series 7 model is available for £159 at Wowcher.

Alternatively, a slightly more budget friendly smart watch to consider would be the Amazfit Active 2, which is currently reduced from £99.90 down to £84.99.
