Essex Powerline workers install a new hydro line across Front Road in LaSalle, near the second LaSalle fire station on Monday, August 26, 2024.

The fire department’s west station, is being built at 2160 Front Rd., which was the location of the town’s Centennial Arena before it was torn down in 2015. It is expected to be operational by early 2025.

The nearly two-acre site will house a two-bay, 14,500-square-foot fire hall. JP Thompson Architects designed the new station and Gulf Developments is building it.

LaSalle Council approved the almost $9-million construction bid in October 2023 and broke ground later that month.

On Monday, LaSalle police blocked traffic between International Avenue and Victory Street, while line workers secured the overhead hydro line.
