Hundreds of school children gathered in a large auditorium in Chennai for a unique event – a ‘loo conclave and a toilet and sanitation solutions expo’ – that focused on toilets, hygiene, and sanitation.
The event was part of the International Toilet Festival 3.0, an advocacy programme curated by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) in collaboration with WASH Lab, Recycle Bin, and Cheer. The festival provided a platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and awareness-building on urban sanitation among the public and school children. It also brought together a number of startups on the forward-looking solutions in sanitation and hygiene.
The two-day event was a thematic festival dedicated to children, designed to engage them in creative activities centred around the themes of toilets, hygiene, and sanitation. A variety of competitions, including story writing, scrapbook modelling, collage making, skit performances, persona presentations, and elocution, were held to encourage student participation and awareness, according to GCC.
The festival garnered wide participation, with 124 schools from across the city registering and a total of 661 students confirmed for the various events.
Sridevi, a grade 9 student from a government school, said she participated in the story writing contest on the topic of banning public urination.
Loo Conclave is a platform for startups, investors, and innovative enthusiasts to look forward and network with like-minded individuals in the advanced clean tech sector. This gathering presented a unique opportunity to convene a diverse set of stakeholders, including innovators, problem-solvers, thought leaders, and key decision-makers, under one roof to explore forward-looking solutions in sanitation and hygiene. The event aims to foster dialogue, enable partnerships, and catalyse transformative ideas that contribute to the advancement of sustainable sanitation technologies.
The expo featured an array of entrepreneurs and innovators working at the intersection of sanitation, hygiene, and technological advancement. The exhibition will feature product demonstrations and solution-based displays designed to address contemporary challenges in the sanitation sector.
