Starting from April 7, observed as World Health Day, Chennai-based private hospital MedIndia Hospitals will begin screening members of the public on a range of parameters to check for metabolic syndrome, and will also promote awareness about early detection and lifestyle changes.
Metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions that together raise your risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes, and can also lead to other health problems.

Speaking at a press meet held on Saturday (February 22, 2025), founder-chairman of the hospital T.S. Chandrasekar said metabolic syndrome consisted of obesity, hypertension, high blood sugar, high levels of ‘bad’ cholesterol, and low levels of ‘good’ cholesterol. Pointing out that about 30% of Chennai residents were obese and that obesity was an issue of growing concern globally as it could lead to a number of serious health issues, he stressed that early detection was crucial. Many people did not know they had metabolic syndrome conditions, he said, and so may not seek medical help until it was quite late.
For the screening, the hospital has collaborated with CureSelect Healthcare LLP, a company working in the field of tele-health and remote patient monitoring, to use a kit that can provide real-time data collection and evaluations. The ‘M2S2’ kit, consisting of 23 tests, will screen patients for blood pressure, sugar levels, cholesterol levels, kidney function tests, and an ECG, among others, digitise the data, and provide a colour-coded risk assessment that will enable healthcare providers to tell patients what they need to do next.

“We will screen the first 1,000 patients free, starting with adolescents, through the MedIndia Trust, and then ask for philanthropic donations to further target priority groups across urban, semi-urban and rural areas. The goal is to screen 20 lakh persons. At the same time, we will focus on awareness promotion on lifestyle modifications and family counselling,” Dr. Chandrasekar said.
The kit was launched during the Live Digestive Endoscopy Workshop 2025 being conducted by the hospital.
