Warning as busy Glasgow railway line ‘blocked’ as services face delays

Due to the problem, the travel operator said that the line is blocked and services are ‘unable’ to travel through the area.

Meanwhile, National Rail revealed that multiple routes are currently being affected by the issue.

The firm said trains running through the area or between the two stations may be delayed or cancelled.

Services that are affected include:

  • Avanti West Coast services between Glasgow Central and Wolverhampton/London.
  • ScotRail services between Glasgow Central and Motherwell/Lanark, and also between Glasgow Central and Carstairs/Edinburgh.
  • TransPennine Express services between Glasgow Central and Manchester Piccadilly.

A spokesperson for National Rail said: “A fault with the signalling system between Motherwell and Lanark means trains running between these stations may be delayed by up to 20 minutes or cancelled.

“Disruption is expected until 9am.”

A ScotRail spokesperson added: “We’ve been advised by Network Rail Scotland of a signalling issue between Lanark and Motherwell.

“The line is therefore blocked, and services are unable to travel through the area. Staff are on their way, and we’ll keep you updated.”

More as we have it.
