Manchester United have singled out Crystal Palace’s FA Cup hero Eberechi Eze as their next summer target. The Red Devils are already closing in on Wolves star Matheus Cunha and Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

Boss Ruben Amorim is desperate to boost his squad following a dreadful season. United finished 15th in the Premier League and failed to win a major trophy, ensuring they will not play in Europe next year.

Amorim won just seven of the 27 top-flight games he took charge of after replacing Erik ten Hag. The 40-year-old is set on overhauling his options this summer and has selected attack as the most pressing need.

United scored just 44 goals in their 38 Premier League games, a lower amount than all but four other teams. They hope that Delap can solve their issues up-front, while Cunha will come in as one of the No.10s playing behind him.

But Amorim would like to bring in another attacking midfielder to further improve his options. It appears he has landed on Eze, who scored Palace’s winning goal in their FA Cup final win over Manchester City.

According to ESPN, United are ‘interested’ in Eze, along with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. That comes with the ‘framework’ for a £30m move for Delap having been agreed.

United have also activated the £62.5m release clause in Cunha’s contract, with the Brazilian now set for a medical. Eze’s contract will expire in the summer of 2027, potentially providing an opportunity for United to agree a deal.

The England international has scored 14 goals and notched 11 assists this season. Eze expressed his delight at winning his first major trophy following the defeat of City at Wembley.

“This is special man. I don’t even know what to say man… honestly I’m just grateful man! Thank God, only God could do this because we’ve come here three times, facing a team that’s been the best team in the world for how long,” he said.

“I just couldn’t breathe man, I couldn’t breathe, they keep the ball so well, you’ve got to work so hard to get anything from them – but we also know that when you get up there into their box, you’ve got to take the chance, you’ve got to make it count.”

United boss Amorim has conceded though that they may find it hard to do business this summer. The failure to qualify for European football will restrict their ability to pay out big sums.

“We have a plan that is to bring [in] some new players. Our big plan is to improve the team we have and improve the academy as that is our future, as it was in past,” the Red Devils boss said.

“It’s not going to change so much. We have financial fair play rules, so we are not allowed to do so much this summer. The important thing is to stick together.

“We are going to struggle and it is not going to be everything right away. I have a feeling the team is improving and that is the most important thing.”
