On Thursday, Major League Baseball took advantage of the lack of games during the all-star break to release its 2025 schedule.
One weekend that stands out for the Blue Jays is July 11-13, when they are scheduled to face the Athletics in their temporary home of Sacramento.
This year, daily highs in Sacramento from July 1-9 averaged 41C. Temperatures there in the past have reached 46C, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
In addition, the field at Sutter Health Park will be changed from grass to synthetic, because the Athletics will share the ball park with the San Francisco Giants’ triple-A team. The surface will have a hydration element. “We think that’s the best that we can do in terms of playing surface in the heat,” commissioner Rob Manfred said Tuesday during a media availability at the all-star game.

After beginning the 2023 and 2024 regular seasons with a long road trip to accommodate Rogers Centre renovations, the Blue Jays will begin their 2025 schedule with a seven-game home stand against Baltimore and Washington.
The Blue Jays’ annual visit to Seattle is set for the May 9-11 weekend, and their trip to Detroit is July 24-27.
The 2025 season will open in Tokyo on March 18, when Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers will face the Chicago Cubs.
All 30 teams are scheduled to play on March 27, marking the earliest opening day other than international games.
Each team will play six games against its prime interleague rival instead of four, increasing matchups between the New York Yankees and Mets, the Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels, Cubs and Chicago White Sox, and Athletics and San Francisco Giants. What is being called a Rivalry Weekend is scheduled for May 16-18 and includes the prime interleague rivalries along with Pittsburgh vs Philadelphia, Colorado vs. Arizona, Detroit vs. Toronto and Houston vs. Texas.

In the third straight season of a return to a balanced schedule, a team will play 13 games against each division rival and six or seven against each other club in its league for a total of 62. The remaining 48 games are against interleague opponents, with a single three-game series against each of the 14 other clubs in the opposite league. Teams will be home against the same interleague opponents they hosted in 2023.
The all-star game will be at Atlanta’s Truist Park on July 15 and the regular season ends Sept. 28.
